Mesh Canada

Frequently Asked Questions

When you use your mobile device, such as an iPhone or laptop, you need to search for the wireless network named "Free-WiFi". Clicking or tapping on this network and then clicking connect will tell your device to start using our network to access the internet wirelessly. Once you are connected simply open up your web browser and try to visit any web page. You will be redirected to one of our splash pages which will instruct you on how to connect. Usually you can just click Continue if you agree to our terms and conditions.
From time to time technology tends to break. Thankfully, there are very few steps to fixing it. If your Mesh Canada hostpot has stopped working please take the following steps:
  1. Are any of the green indicator lights on the hotspot not working? There should be three green lights, one for power, one for Internet, and one indicating that the hotspot is broadcasting WiFi (the WLAN light).
  2. If any lights are out, verify that the cables are not loose or unplugged. There should be a black power cable as well as an ethernet (network) cable plugged into the device.
  3. If the problem is not with your network, please power cycle (aka. reboot) your hotspot by unplugging the black power cable from the router, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in. There should immediately be a power and Internet light turned on. In a few minutes the third green light (for WiFi) on the hotspot should start blinking. Now connect to the “Free-WiFi” network and see if the problem has been solved.
Many things affect how well your hotspot signal will cover your business. Keep these in mind:
  • The antenna for your hotspot should be standing straight up.
  • Your hotspot should be placed in a fairly central location. You don’t want it tucked away in a back office away from customers.
  • The most walls and interfering objects between your hotspot and your customers, the worse the signal will be. Things like metal counters and kitchens create a lot of interference!
  • If possible, place your hotspot as high as possible to ensure maximum coverage of your premises. If you manage to place the hotspot near the ceiling, direct the antenna straight down.
We provide free and unlimited support for our hardware and installations. If you require help or support that isn’t related to our hotspot services we are often available on a contract basis. Please contact us to inquire about our rates and discuss how we can help.
Verify that your Internet connection is working by browsing to a webpage on a computer that is plugged directly into your local network. If your Internet connection is not working there is likely a probelm with your modem or internal network. Mesh Canada can’t provide free support for your internal network, but you should try rebooting your modem and other devices, waiting for each device to start completely before starting the next one. Reboot your modem first. Otherwise you might need to contact your Internet provider.
You might be confused why you can’t access the Internet when you connect to the wireless network, Free Public WiFi. The reason you see this strange, dud of a network is because old Windows XP laptops have a glitch that will broadcast an ad-hoc WiFi network from the laptop that it had previously tried to connect to. This means that someone had tried to connect to another network named Free Public WiFi and then their laptop started broadcasting the same thing. This, however, never works! So make sure you are connecting to our network, which is Free-WiFi.
